Big girl bed. Three little words that conjure up all kinds of emotions.
As a Mum of three, the migration from cot to bed was fabulous in theory. Until the realisation hits you, that precious little one, isn’t so little any more. Another day, another milestone. Those moments of parenthood that fill with you absolute pride yet leave you feeling somewhat empty at the same time.
That said, I’m a silver lining kind of girl. The positives of bed transition = room refresh. New colour palette, styling, decor – this afterall is an event to be celebrated (albeit emotionally). The perfect chance for a do-over.
Meet Kristy Withers. Mother, Founder & Creator behind Incy Interiors. Kristy has been designing & producing classically cool sleep spaces since 2011. With a background in Marketing and a passion for fresh, cutting edge design, Kristy searched high & low for that perfect ‘big boy bed’ for her son. She had her heart set on a ‘hospital’ style metal bed, but couldn’t find anything to fit the brief.
Taking matters into her own hands, Kristy designed & made her dream bed, she later named the ‘Oscar’. This was an absolute ‘light bulb’ moment for Kristy & Incy Interiors the brand was born.
With a collection of beautifully designed beds & cots, Incy is very much centred around creativity, functionality and affordability. A product range that combines high-end quality finishes with cool on-trend style, a true centrepiece for any little bedroom. From pops of colour; think fairy floss pink, sunshine yellow & spearmint through to simple, fresh scandi whites – the Incy collection captures the spirit of childhood.
Staying inspired and ahead of the game is important to Kristy and the brands success. Incy recently collaborated with the amazing Megan Morton on a ‘limited edition’ series. A pared-back four poster bed, minimal, clean lines, the kind of stuff fairy tales are built on. A contemporary take on the traditional four poster style, it’s such a timepiece. The series even includes a grownups version. Yes. A slice of heaven wrapped in king sized, rose gold perfection.
Managing a business & motherhood is a team effort says Kristy. Incy is very much an extension of her creativity and passion along with the loyal team that supports the brand. I asked Kristy to share her personal tips on balance, how does she make it work?
1. Define work and home time. Be strict with this, otherwise you spend all day feeling guilty. If you’re working you’ll feel guilty you aren’t with the kids and if you’re with the kids you’ll feel guilty that your emails are backing up.
2. Gather a support team. My team consists of my immediate family, my siblings (who also work for Incy), my parents, my in-laws and my beautiful school mums who send me texts to remind me of a change in sports day or event I have missed. I’m lucky to have so much family support but your support team can consist of anyone, they just need to have your back and understand you’re trying as hard as you possibly can.
3. Be honest. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You’re not superwoman and no one expects you to be, so be real and people will be much more likely to help you out.
Absolutely, I couldn’t agree more with Kristy. The juggle is real, the secret is how you choose to manage it. Is there a killer idea you have tucked away? Feeling motivated to take a leap of faith? Just do it. Do your homework. Research your idea. Know your market and what you want to achieve. Once you kick start the process, keep at it. Ride the highs & lows and give it everything you’ve got.
