As the rain buckets down at my place today, I’m dreaming of a little escapism. Sunshine, saltwater and every cliche associated with long days and balmy nights. I’ve even packed a ‘virtual suitcase’ in my head. Insert ‘sigh’ here.
Holidaying at home is now absolutely a thing. Those creative little decor touches that ignite all kinds of blissful travel vibes. Fresh linen, towels, a throw, a couple of hydrating coconuts and you are there (well almost).
My favourite holiday inspired wares this season come from the delightful Kate & Kate. The dynamic duo behind the brand are Mamas, best friends & sister-in-laws. Their latest release aptly named, The Great Escape, includes a divine collection of beach towels, linen throws, blankets, cushions & napery.
Made using only the highest quality materials and craftsmanship, The Great Escape release was inspired by summer vacations past & dreams for the future. The feeling of freedom, sinking your toes into the sand, leaving your cares behind. With a soft colour palette drawn from summer skies at dusk & dawn – it’s all about looking to the horizon, embracing the big world out there.
Both Kate & Kate (Kate Pascoe & Kate Pascoe Squires) were in the early stages of separate start-up businesses in 2013. Completely by accident they met an impressive textile manufacturer. About 3 minutes later, the ‘aa-haa’ moment came, they would join forces and create a collection of bespoke blankets together. Kate & Kate the brand was born.
The girls draw creative inspiration from everywhere. Constantly taking pictures of interesting things throughout the day and sending them to each other. Pinterest, Instagram, magazines, blogs as well as spending time with creative people injects energy into the design process. The girls also try to ‘escape’ together a couple of times a year to create some magic. Yes, they’re currently in Byron finalising designs for Summer 16/17. Three words. Can’t wait ladies!
What I love most about this pair is they successfully create collections with both a colour & monochrome aesthetic. It caters for a whole range of interior styles and colour palettes. Perfect for every mood and evolving trend. Not easy to do at all.
